Makers Gym is a co-creation space that launched in Frisco, Texas in 2021. They are a collection of like-minded creators who realized the industry was missing something - access to professional studio resources without the anchor of a staff gig. In their own words, “Coming up in the creative field means taking risks, but making the jump from employee to entrepreneur is a huge leap. We felt that there was a way to narrow the gap.”

Everything from the branding to the space itself was designed by Creative Director Terrance Price, but I was given the opportunity to apply and expand the branding in some very rewarding ways - beginning with one of their elevator lobbies.

The name “Makers Gym” makes use of a dual-meaning and plays on the idea of a traditional gym, but where one works out their creative muscles. The phrase “make or break” became an appropriate way to express the layers of meaning already present in certain elements of the branding.

It is a community where creatives are working hard to elevate their skills as they ‘make’, and is also a space with ample premium amenities for them to comfortably relax and ‘break’.

From that we get the relevance of the words themselves as they lay the informational foundation, and the inclusion of the mouse cursor and coffee mug in the negative space then lend context for the viewer to pick up on just what type of ‘make or break’ we’re talking about.

If you’re a creative of any kind, do yourself a life changing favor and check out their website or on Instagram @makersgym.
